7 Benefits of Meditation & Mindfulness
When most people think of yoga they mean yoga poses but yoga is actually much more than that. In fact, did you know that the actual yoga poses are only one of the eight limbs of yoga? One of the 8 limbs of yoga is meditation. I actually even started meditating way before I got really serious about the postures. That was back in 2013, which is almost 10 years now. And I honestly have so many tremendously benefits coming from this practice alone. Some of my loved ones might even argue that I have turned into a whole other person. A better one of course ;)
Benefits of Meditation:
feeling more grounded and balanced in life
better sleep patterns
feeling more calm and thus making better decisions
less anxiety
feeling more sharp and on-alert during work hours
being able to letting negative thoughts go more easily
overall becoming a more mindful and happier version of myself
Of course meditation and becoming more mindful is not a quick fix. You won’t feel these benefits after meditating once every blue moon. Like always consistency is key! Just like you can train your body you can train your mind.
I read a quote the other day that said something along the lines of, if you take care of your home daily, even only for 5 minutes, it’ll become more beautiful and beautiful over the years. But if you don’t take care of it, you might not notice it immediately but over the years it’ll start to rot and it will take much longer to fix that in the end. It’s the same with our inner home. If we only take as little as 5 minutes to take care of our inner home, I’m convinced and I know it’ll pay off in the long run.
As I get older, my personal meditation practice keeps shifting too. And although I’d like to meditate twice a day in a cross legged seat facing East for 20 minutes each, sometimes I just don’t have the time being part of this fast paced world we live in. Luckily apple has made it super easy to schedule and track my meditation practice via their new ‘mindfulness app’ which is now available for the apple watch. I find this service super convenient to a place where all my workouts, asana practices and now also meditation practices are saved.
